Technical Director- Job Vacancy in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

What YOU Will Do

Under the supervision of the Proposal Director / Project Director, the incumbent will be responsible for organizing, mobilizing and leading a project from a technical perspective. The responsibilities of this position cover all technical aspects of a project, including design of the permanent structures, planning and development of the methods, design of the temporary structures, geotechnical studies, environmental studies, surveys and 3D modeling, management of traffic during construction, permitting, etc. The incumbent will be responsible for all technical aspects of the project and as such will propose and implement technical solutions/options, control the quantities to be implemented, and ensure studies and deliverables progress and are approved according to schedule. The incumbent will manage the project’s technical team, including the design manager(s) and coordinator(s), as well as the methods team, and will manage the contracts of consultants hired for the project.

Planning

  • Participate in responding to the Request for Qualifications for the project, including organizing the technical and design teams, establishing the scope of design services required, distributing roles and responsibilities, and selecting consultants.
  • Participate in establishing design service contracts in conjunction with the business and legal teams at each phase of a project (proposal and implementation), including scope of services, timeline and deliverables.

 

Project implementation (proposal and implementation phases)

  • Plan, mobilize and lead the internal technical team that will oversee the technical aspects of the project.
  • Oversee development and training of the internal technical team.
  • Participate in managing design service contracts for permanent structures, in conjunction with the business team.
  • Manage changes and/or additions to initial design service contracts; negotiate changes as necessary (scope of services, schedule, costs).
  • Plan and manage the site survey team, methods team and team responsible for designing the temporary structures.
  • Review, validate and ensure compliance with the overall schedule of studies and deliverables, consistent with the project timeline and milestones.
  • Assist the project team in establishing the information systems and selecting software and tools for the project design.
  • Verify and validate the design management plans for permanent and temporary structures prepared by the various design teams, including ensuring that design control processes are in place and properly applied, and that internal design management processe and procedures are followed.
  •  Produce a regular progress report (frequency to be validated with the Proposal Manager / Project Manager) on the schedule, cost and various performance indicators established for project design; analyze performance, establish and implement preventive and/or corrective measures if necessary.
  •  Supervise the technical studies and ensure the various design office and methods office activities are properly coordinated with the construction team.
  •  Monitor and validate production of the various deliverables throughout the review and optimization processes.
  •  Establish and lead the project’s technical committee, as appropriate.
  •  Participate in major technical reviews and validate the main technical choices.
  •  Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors on technical aspects and report important issues to the Project Director and other stakeholders on the construction team.
  •  Liaise with owner’s representatives for items under its jurisdiction.
  • Oversee design risk management, reporting design risks on the project risk register as necessary. 

Project closure

  • Participate in feedback sessions and ensure archiving at the end of the project.
  • Assist the teams in charge of the financial closure aspects for design contracts.
  • Participate in evaluating the consultants’ performance.
