Scheduling Manager – Job Vacancy in Toronto, Ontario – Canada

Manage the unit and achieve the targeted results through diligent and accurate oversight of the health and safety and financial aspects of the department. Maintain a team of subordinates who are capable of producing the outputs required:

 

•Ensure subordinates are able and willing to produce the desired output (safe efficient execution of all work), and that processes are continually improved for achieving those outputs.

•Provide staffing recommendations for their function as requirements and objectives evolve, especially in the face of new projects.

•Assess staff capability to do the required work, now and in the future.

•Conduct personal effectiveness reviews of subordinates to build relationships and trust, and to improve effectiveness.

•Advocate the acquisition of appropriate tools and skills to optimize the performance of staff.

•Mentor, counsel and foster the personal development of all subordinates.

•Manage the unit and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through the promotion of teamwork between the various disciplines and LOB’s across Hydro One.

•Generate a customer/client-focused culture, which consistently meets its promised commitments.

Be accountable for the outputs of others:

•Set the appropriate context for subordinates (i.e. safety expectations, corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.).

•Set an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the unit.

•Know and ensure own and subordinates’ compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit.

•Establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes affecting their work emphasizing safety and continuous improvement opportunities.

 

Provide leadership to subordinates, so that they collaborate competently, and with full commitment, with each other in pursuing the goals set:

•Translate the corporate goals and objectives into a direction which guides the work of the unit and communicate that direction to all staff.

General Accountabilities:

•Accountable to manage, develop and maintain staff for a centralized department supporting productivity savings initiatives focused on the larger Transmission business.

•Accountable to lead productivity savings initiatives development, providing guidance and leadership for all stakeholders in departments across the business.

•Accountable for productivity savings initiative process documentation, business planning support and reporting.

•Accountable for the integration of the productivity savings team with all areas of the organization. •Accountable for creating productivity savings reports for management and supporting corporate level reporting.

•Responsible to provide guidance in the requirement for new data, process and systems.

•Responsible for the development of work methods and processes consistent with departmental Project Controls methodology.

•Perform other duties as required.

 

Selection Criteria:

•Requires a good knowledge of English to communicate effectively with others, present to stakeholders and prepare technical reports.

•Requires a university degree in Engineering or training in a construction management field.

•Requires hands-on experience in scheduling. A period of over 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

•Experience related to the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of transmission assets, or in the utility industry, is a plus.

•Scheduling experience in in transmission line and station projects or other linear project types is a plus.

•Experience in construction management examples include: Understanding working drawings, preparing construction schedules for the full lifecycle of a project, project planning, estimating and project control.

•Experience with SAP is an asset.

•Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 is an asset.

•Experience in setting up and administering a P6 Database, including WBS, OBS, etc. is an asset.

•Experience with portfolio and performance reporting.

•Experience with supervising or managing a team of schedulers.

 

Essential Competencies:

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills

•Expertise in Primavera P6 and Oracle P6 software

•In-depth understanding of critical path methodology

•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

•Requires performing a variety of duties under the usual business office conditions. Required to travel in support of site meetings. This will at times include overnight stays due to distance of travel and to ensure safe conditions for travel.
