Supervisor, Piping – Job Vacancy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Key Responsibilities
- Involvement in bid review process for verification of estimated production and quantities
- Work with EHS representatives to create and uphold project/site specific EHS programs and policies
- Maintain a positive project culture, keeping morale high, through frequent check-ins on progress and career development
- Collaboration with PMO, Quality, Design, and all other shop function leads for detailed project handover and setup
- Regularly work with site Client Representative, in a professional manner, on routine work updates
- Must develop in-depth understanding of applicable scope, with knowledge of the work that is contracted and agreed upon between the shop and client
- Identify risks to PMO, assist in creation of mitigation strategies and implement if necessary
- Identify requests outside of contracted scope, raise change management issues to PMO and implement as necessary, including schedule, materials and subcontractor updates.
- Maintain detailed look-ahead schedule (look ahead window as determined by project), ensuring proper staffing and materials are available when required
- Liaise with necessary subcontractors, union representatives and regulatory bodies to ensure work can proceed as planned
Required Knowledge and Experience
- An understanding of Fabrication methodologies and practices gained through a minimum of 5 years of in shop experience leading projects and teams
- Applicable technical training obtained through trade certification or post-secondary education
- Well-developed leadership skills gained through managing trade and/or non-trade teams in a Fabrication shop.
- Ability to organize own work and work of others in a complex environment
- High level of professionalism when dealing with all internal and external stakeholders
Necessary Competencies
- Hire Pipefitters, Welders Apprentices and Metal trades as required from local 527
- Balance manpower as required based on the volume of work on the shop floor to meet project targets.
- Order tools, equipment, and consumables to meet project needs.
- Ensure the project quality requirements are known by the work force at the start of each project as per the project profile and are upheld.
- Ensure standard operating procedures that overarch all projects are followed.
- Own the implementation and execution of productivity targets (FDI) for pipe work.
- Ensure the work force is aware of the FDI targets and meets the daily goals.
- Report on productivity targets daily during the productivity meeting.
- Contribute to the development of production layouts and ensure they are implemented for each new project.
- Assign Foreman as required.
- Enforce proper shop organization and housekeeping.
- Promote and lead the 5S program.
- Review shop floor drawings, highlight and organize packages appropriately.
- Coordinate with Project Coordinator for all issues that impact production, extra work and spool status.
- Understand all project specific/regulatory codes and standards.
- Attend various meetings and provide input from a production point of view.
- Investigation of process improvements and the testing of said improvements.
- Responsible for the security and maintenance of the facility.
- Ensure personnel meet minimum training requirements.
