Senior Estimator – Buildings – Job Vacancy in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

As an Senior Estimator at Graham, you will:

  • Determine the project scope of work.
  • Set-up and complete estimate in company standard estimating program.
  • Prepare preliminary construction schedules.
  • Complete estimate quantification and draft costing of labour.
  • Identify and develop constructability requirements for project construction.
  • Analyze design criteria and assist in recommending options for cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials.
  • Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings.
  • Analyze potential strategies, advantages, or innovations for the project that could provide Graham with a more competitive bid.
  • Draft application of labour and equipment productivities to estimates based on historically accurate values.
  • Analyze subcontractor bids for irregularities and ensure the full scope of work is included.
  • Assemble conceptual / budget costs using past project analytics, benchmarking.
  • Develop scopes of work for subcontractors to provide budgeting assistance on smaller, less complex projects.
  • Prepare an estimate schedule of all activities required to complete a fully quantified and costed estimate.
  • Provide accurate assessments of risk and scope for completed estimates.
  • Generate and assess risk mitigation plans that ensure bonding, insurance costing and appropriate contingencies.
  • Select and invite to tender trade partners that are assessed to be financially viable with adequate manpower and appropriate level of expertise to complete the work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders that reflect and support Graham core values.
  • Lead a team of support estimators and operational staff, assisting with planning their time, oversee delegation and quality of work, and compiling all input on medium to large complexity projects.
  • Lead / manage the Kick-Off Meeting, weekly strategy meetings, and any formal meetings pertinent to ensuring the estimate process will meet the milestone dates established.
  • Understand potential pressures on fee and participate in discussions to properly assess and calculate fee.

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Completion of a Construction related Degree or Diploma training program
  • 10+ years of construction-related experience, including a combination of field and estimating experience, is an asset
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Excel, Primavera, OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam and BIM modelling is an asset
