Key Responsibilities

Planning Stage:      

  • Prior to project start, study contract document and read and review project drawings, project scope and estimates
  • Communicate with the project manager and project team to generate an outline of the project execution plan, schedule WBS, schedule level of detail
  • Develop integrated schedules using Primavera P6 for various projects & their different stages as appropriate (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning)
  • Identify the critical path & near critical path within the schedules
  • Interface the schedule with the project budget and resource load it with labour and material resources based on the project approved budget hours and quantity.
  • Submit the schedule to the owner/consultant for approval as the project baseline.

Project Execution and Monitoring Stage:

  • Assemble work packages which provide all drawings, documentation, specifications, materials list (BOM), equipment requirements, scaffold plans, lift procedures, special safety requirements (i.e. confined space), and the sequence of events to ensure all of the pre-installation work is complete and ready for each Foreman to begin work.
  • Assist the monitoring, reviewing, and analysis of the schedule and status during all phases of the project, including the analysis of any schedule deviations and corrective actions.
  • Question subcontractors’ schedules, while forecasting and trending completion target dates to ensure contractor plans are realistic and achievable.
  • Assist Project Managers in creating short-term schedule in accordance with the project baseline.
  • Interface with construction, owners, and subcontractors to discuss causes of schedule delays and propose corrective actions.
  • Proactive in reporting schedule discrepancies or project schedule issues to project stakeholders
  • Provide the Project Team with timely, informed, and up-to-date project schedule information including trends and forecasts as well as progress, schedule and planning input to the weekly, bi-weekly and monthly project reports

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Post-secondary education – Engineering discipline, or Project Management would be considered an asset
  • 2-3 years’ experience in project planning/scheduling in the construction industry
  • 2-3 years previous experience in rail projects is required
  • 2-3 years’ experience and full proficiency in computer scheduling programs (i.e. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project)
  • 2-3 years’ experience and advanced understanding in computer scheduling programs (i.e. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project)
  • 2-3 years’ experience and advanced skills in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)

Compensation and Benefits

  • $80,000 to $100,000 annually
  • Work 37.5 hours/week
