Mission Statement: Homes First Society develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.

  • Days and Hours: Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm
  • Salary: $46,000 to $51,500 annually

The successful applicant will maintain and enhance Homes First Society’s payroll function by collecting, verifying, and processing timesheet, and issuing pay and pay-related information to staff while ensuring adherence to the mission statement, policies, and procedures of Homes First Society.

Job Requirements:

  • Preparing payroll breakdown reports for journal entries
  • Contributing to the timely input and coordination of bi-weekly payroll, utilizing Ceridian
  • Processing and distributing reports for compensation, taxes paid, garnishments, and deductions
  • Timely filing of all payroll-related returns and remittance of statutory payments, such as WSIB, EHT returns, and records of employment.
  • Maintaining and updating all personnel files regarding payroll
  • Processing new hires, terminations, and salary and position changes
  • Processing benefit enrollment forms and coordinating any required paperwork to be sent internally or to a third party.
  • Inputting all new employee information and keeping all employee information updated online. Printing and checking the monthly statements, making any corrections and monthly payments.
  • Establishing employee benefits eligibility, coverages, effective dates and payroll premium deduction set-up and support employees with benefits programs set-up
  • Addressing and resolving employee complaints relating to the payroll.
  • Accomplishing related results as needed, including back up support of other positions in the payroll and the finance department.
  • Establishing lines of communication with internal departments to resolve any payroll issues.
  • Providing information as required for yearly audit and budget preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent designation/experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in payroll
  • Payroll Certificate as asset
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations regarding payroll processing
  • Experience with Ceridian an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft with emphasis on Excel
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • proficient in computerized accounting packages, word processing and spreadsheets.
