Manager, Operations- Job Vacancy in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

You as an Operations Manager will:

  • Be responsible for the day-to-day construction operations for all projects in the area.
  • Be responsible for implementing plans & policies to achieve overall division objectives to ensure maximum operating results.
  • Assist in the establishment of Area short-term and long-range goals, ensuring aligned and supportive of overall corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for overall recruitment strategy which includes forecasting staffing needs and corresponding skills, knowledge and experience; identification of recruitment sources, advertising, and building relationships with local educational institutions and recruiting agencies.
  • Responsible for the flow of personnel and assigning teams to projects, requires the review of staffing contained in client proposals to forecast future needs.
  • Provides advice, guidance, and direction to subordinate executives and managers toward their professional development.
  • Overall responsibility for Area training plans, championing employee needs with respective groups within the company.
  • Ensures Internal Project Reviews are scheduled and actively participates in the review of project progress, ensuring that corrective actions are taken, issues are escalated to the right level and corporate wide resources are leveraged to ensure that the project is delivered on time, on budget and to EllisDon’s quality standards.
  • Acts as the point of escalation for complex problems, both of a technical and non-technical nature, assisting in the assessment of root cause and the resolution of problems.
  • Working with others, responsible for maintaining good working relationships and promoting good public relations with the Owners, Architects and the community.
  • Ensure senior management is proactively kept abreast of potential problems, work interference, schedule difficulties, employee issues and/or client issues.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
  • Performs all functions and responsibilities in consonance with the company’s values and beliefs.

Is this the right role for you?

  • 10-15 years of supervisory experience and proven leadership capabilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), typical procedures and standards.
  • Direct experience in leading self-performed form work projects; planning, scheduling, managing productivity, quality analysis – mandatory requirement.
  • Working knowledge of union jurisdiction and labour agreements.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation capabilities.
