Geotechnical Technician – Hybrid – Job Vacancy in  Quebec, Canada

Primary responsibilities

  • Participate in engineering projects involving geotechnical and concrete characterization studies, from planning of onsite work to its completion, followed by laboratory analysis and compilation of results
  • Act as Field Manager during execution of the work
  • Geotechnics component:
    • Supervise investigative ground work involving geotechnical and environmental drilling, test trenches and manual surveys
    • Conduct onsite testing (SPT, Nilcon field vane test, etc.)
    • Sample materials in accordance with standard practices
    • Install observation wells, vibrating wire piezometers, etc.
    • Conduct control testing in the laboratory (sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, Proctor tests, water content)
    • Prepare daily ground work reports, including soil and rock descriptions
  • Concrete characterization component:
    • Supervise concrete core sampling work
    • Conduct non-destructive tests (corrosion potential, georadar, ultrasound)
  • Verify the proper functioning of materials
  • Coordinate and verify the inventory of onsite and warehoused materials
  • The position includes a combination of office work, telework and ground work

Profile

  • DCS in Mineral Technology or Civil Engineering or other equivalent training
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in onsite geotechnical investigation
  • Holder of an ASP-Construction card
  • Solid grasp of geotechnical investigation and mastery of environmental sampling methods
  • Ability to remain standing for long periods
  • Ability to work in extreme outdoor conditions (summer and winter, day and night)
  • Ability to lift items weighing 20 to 25kg
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Access to a vehicle for travelling within the Province of Québec and possibly in Ontario
  • Proven excellence with respect to autonomy, resourcefulness and organizational skills, with advanced mastery of investigative ground work
  • Proficiency in French, bilingualism is an asset
  • Mastery of MS Office
