Geotechnical Technician – Hybrid – Job Vacancy in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Primary responsibilities

  • Participate in engineering projects for the production of geotechnical and concrete characterization studies, from planning to execution of field work to laboratory analyses and compilation of results
  • Act as the person in charge of field work execution
  • Geotechnics:
    • Supervision of field investigation work for the execution of geotechnical and environmental boring, exploratory trenches, and manual boring.
    • Carry out in situ testing (SPT, Nilcon scissometer, etc.)
    • Sample materials in accordance with standardized practices
    • Install observation wells, vibrating wire piezometers, etc.
    • Carry out laboratory control tests (particle-size analysis, Atterberg limits, water content)
    • Write daily reports on work field, including soil and rock description
  • Concrete characterization:
    • Supervision of concrete boring work
    • Execution of non-destructive tests (corrosion potential, ground-penetrating radar, ultrasound)
  • Ensure that material is in good working order
  • Coordinate and verify the inventory of field and warehouse material
  • This position combines office and field work, as well as telework

Profile

  • College Diploma in mineral technology or civil engineering, or any other equivalent training
  • Over 5 years of experience in field geotechnical investigation
  • ASP Construction card, and awareness of the importance of occupational health and safety at work sites
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical investigations and excellent practical knowledge of environmental sampling methods
  • Ability to work standing up for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in extreme outdoor conditions, in summer and winter, on day or night shifts
  • Ability to lift loads between 20 kg and 25 kg
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a vehicle to travel across Quebec and Southern Ontario
  • Autonomy, resourcefulness, organization skills, superior practical knowledge of field investigation work
  • Excellent French written and verbal communication
  • Bilingualism in English and French (an asset)
  • Excellent practical knowledge of the MS Office Suite
