Engineer, Instrumentation and Control – Job Vacancy in Toronto – Ontario – Canada

We’re busier than ever with Biofuels, Oil & Gas and Carbon Capture technologies. We believe in the power of decarbonization in our fight to tackle climate change. Our teams are developing ground-breaking programs in biofuel development, hydrogen production development, and carbon dioxide capture and long-term storage, to name just a few.

By joining our team as an intermediate engineer, you’ll serve as a technical leader for engineering mandates in automation, instrumentation and control. Your role will also be to provide leadership to the team in various phases of engineering and site work. You’ll be asked to significantly contribute to preparing proposals, selecting technologies and proposing solutions to clients. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to actively participate in business development.

The incumbent will be required to perform the following activities:

  • Develop and maintain sustainable relationships with clients.
  • Listen to clients and meet their high expectations.
  • Define the scope of projects and proposals.
  • Lead projects by performing technical studies, quality control and preparing technical reports.
  • Plan and coordinate work, from studies to commissioning.
  • Help define the scope of projects and proposals.
  • Develop technical documents and provide technical training in your area of expertise.
  • Perform technical information surveys at client locations.
  • Assign and revise work by junior engineers, technicians and drafters assigned to the project and assess the technical scope.
  • Be involved in commissioning.

Technical

  • Prepare material lists and bills of materials according to codes, standards, drawings and other established procedures in accordance with BBA’s quality system requirements.
  • Revise analyses and deliverables produced by junior engineers, technicians and drafters.
  • Perform technical surveys.
  • Plan, organize and determine client needs for new facilities or expansions.
  • Provide technical assistance at project start-up and after delivery.
  • Participate in site testing.

Management

  • Take on the responsibilities of a project manager, which includes ensuring that all assigned deliverables are produced in accordance with quality requirements and are on time and on budget.
  • Maintain synergy with the project team.

Client service

  • Interact with clients and participate in business development.
  • Have a good network of industry contacts.
  • Establish and maintain contact with clients.
  • Define client needs and target new needs during projects.
  • Serve as leader when preparing technical and commercial proposals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Undergraduate engineering degree in Automated Production, Electrical, or other relevant training
  • 7 to 12 years of relevant experience
  • Member of a Canadian engineering association
  • Practical experience in instrumentation and control design (design criteria, network architecture, instrument selection, etc.).
  • Relevant experience in developing and programming control systems (SCADA, PLC, DCS).
  • Site experience and focus on occupational safety
  • Experience with system troubleshooting, commissioning and implementation
  • Interest or relevant experience in automation and instrumentation
  • Available to travel across our BBA offices in the Greater Montréal area
  • Available for short- and long-term work assignments at client locations or sites
  • Bilingual (English and French) and strong skills in drafting reports
  • Asset: experience in a consulting engineering environment
  • Asset: experience in cost estimation and in preparing and presenting proposals
  • Asset: experience in multidisciplinary design
  • Asset: participation in detailed engineering of a project in the mining or energy sectors
