Design Engineer – Job Vacancy in Toronto, Ontario – Canada

General Accountabilities:

  • Report to the Manager of Stations Engineering (Stations C/M/S); prepares engineering design and other related work of average complexity and assist senior design engineer in design work of major complexity concerning stations’ structures, foundations, and civil designs (drainage, grading, etc.).
  • Collaborate with all concerned in the various phases leading to final designs; ensure coordination of various features to avoid design conflict, assisting staff as required on major work assignments.
  • Examine contracts and tenders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of design standards, specifications, procedures and guidelines related to Stations designs.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Requires an engineering knowledge of structural and civil engineering.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years) in an appropriate field such as civil Engineering.
  • Requires on-the-job experience in the structural and civil (municipal, infrastructure) designs.
  • Experience in using structural and foundation design software is required.
  • General knowledge of civil drainage, grading, road design and other civil engineering works.
  • Requires knowledge of technical writing for the preparation of technical reports and specifications.
  • Experience related to fieldwork is an asset.
  • A period of up to 3 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
