Job Summary:

The incumbent is responsible for coordinating Transit Services activities in accordance with available resources and developing drivers’ schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate, plan, develop, update, and implement transit schedules, including receiving & responding to driver requests, updating driver schedules & crew sheets, preparing shift & vacation bids, and prioritizing departmental resources.  Coordinates and monitors departmental resources to ensure effective and efficient delivery of transit services. Recommends measures to improve performance and/or resolve service delivery issues.  Maintain radio contact with transit staff and provide support as required.  Liaise, collaborate, and exchange information on schedules and excursion with internal and external stakeholders, such as City departments & work teams, agencies, caregivers, clients and bus drivers.  Receives and routes a high volume of calls/e-mails to the department, both internal and external. Responds to, resolves or distributes e-mails, telephone or face-to-face enquiries/complaints and fulfills employee/citizen requests for information. Performs administrative duties including: research, compliance with protocol, compiling statistics, draft communications, maintaining accurate records, data entry (including scheduling), and preparing reports.  Assists the Supervisor and/or Leadhand during operational disturbances such as an emergency incident.  Trains staff on departmental process software, procedures, policies, and related Coordinator job duties.  Follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards. Acts as the Transit Customer Service Representative as required. Other related duties and projects as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Majority of the work is performed under normal office conditions. High level of concentration required during incidents with multiple radios and telephones calls occurring simultaneously. Exposure to dirt, oil, diesel fumes, noise when working at transit sites.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Grade 12
  • 3 years previous experience in Transit operations
  • General awareness of office procedures, customer service, and conflict resolution.
  • Well-developed customer service, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Good multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to act calmly and with accuracy in decision making and recording of information when dealing with customers.

  • General office equipment including computer skills to operate software programs related to work processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail and communications equipment, etc.
  • Transit software, emergency equipment, e.g. fire extinguisher and building alarm system.
